about
I realized the trope “write what you know” is often an overplayed hand, but with our new single, I feel like we need to use it. Growing up in and around standard repressive religion not only informed my worldview but also informed my writing. Pale Horse is an examination of the “end of the world” mythos perpetuated through fire and brimstone discourse by western theocrats while asking the question, “if it is the end of the world, would they even care?” The song is a conversation between the harbingers of the apocalypse and a needlessly busy, apathetic protagonist. It’s the unpacking of youth, taught shame and fear. It’s a ballad of sorts and a slow burn. It’s a reconciling between trauma from religion and being ok to live on without it. Pale Horse is our first single.
lyrics
Mam, you got a minute Well sure I got three
One is for my children and two for me
They call it Armageddon
is my signal getting through to you?
is that new addition?
are you happy with the buy?
will you always be wishing?
praying for your high
horse, the pale riders coming
the end will be televised.
“Did I discomfort you? did I make you think
too busy drinking the company ink
Is there blood on the page? Despair on the vine?
Did I build this all up? Was Your life all for not?
Intent motivated by not getting caught?
You’ll build it all up, the gods of your towns
Cuz’ we’re coming round...We’re coming round”
